A Maryland man pleaded guilty this week to stealing $142,000 from
the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington in a check scam.
Eric S. Curry, 28, of Capitol Heights worked as an accounting
clerk for the YMCA and stole 33 blank YMCA checks over four months
that ended in January 2008. He forged a YMCA official's signature on
the checks and issued them to 14 people, who deposited the checks
and split the proceeds with him, federal prosecutors said.
Curry pleaded guilty Monday in the District's federal court to
conspiring to commit bank fraud. Under federal guidelines, he faces
almost three years in prison at his sentencing Dec. 10.
