Most wool types bowed to the higher New Zealand dollar at the Christchurch wool sale yesterday.

The effect of the kiwi strengthening by more than a cent against the United States dollar overnight to about 71c was evident mainly in the finer wools.

Crossbred prices were about 2 per cent cheaper from the last sale. Mid- micron wools from 26 to 28 micron fell by as much as 4 per cent with 29 to 30 micron 2 per cent to 3 per cent cheaper.

Merino wools did not escape the currency movement with most micron categories cheaper than the last Christchurch sale on September 3.

Elders Primary Wool supply manager, Roger Fuller, said the rising currency had been demanding on trading conditions.
