WEARING AN Aloha shirt and a great big smile, Nick Verhoek was
the guest of honor at a retirement party Aug. 29 at the Alameda
County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton.
Family, friends and colleagues, retired and active, came out in
triple-digit heat to celebrate Nick's 32 years in law enforcement.
Among those attending were fellow officers from his 14 years with
the California Highway Patrol, including Andy Cosgrove; Fred Dorn
and his wife, Dianne; Nick Douglas and his wife, Sandy; Brian
Hernandez; Anita and Brian Valteau; and Mike Turnham.
Gerry Rico, who attended with his wife, Neva, was not only Nick's
former roommate and Marine Corps reserve buddy, but also became a
CHP officer.
