Article: Fire alert shuts fast food diner

DINERS' hopes of a quiet lunch went up in flames when they were evacuated from the McDonald's restaurant because of a small blaze.

Firefighters were called to the cafe in Westgate Street after the blaze broke out at 1.50pm.

Rob Pidgeon said: "I was upstairs trying to eat my lunch when the fire alarm went off.

"When I got downstairs you could see lots of smoke and flames coming from around the chip pan area."

Helen Barnaby from Gloucester said it was not such a happy meal for her.

"We had just got our food and sat down when they told us to leave. We hadn't had a chance to eat."
