Article: Verdicts & Settlements September 21, 2009: Jury finds for defense in slip-and-fall suit

An Adair County jury delivered a defense verdict in the case of a Kirksville woman who slipped and fell at a Hy-Vee supermarket.

Christina Billington slipped on a clear substance in the customer service section of the store in May 2005. After complaining of knee pain, she was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a left patella fracture. She underwent surgery that evening for open reduction and internal fixation of her left patella. In September 2005, she returned to work.

In October 2006, Billington had the underside of the kneecap shaved to treat grinding and popping that had developed in the knee. She returned to work in November 2006 and sought no additional treatment.
