Pace of job loss slows in last two months

BOSTON - The state's job losses slowed to a modest pace in July and August in another sign that the local economy is on the cusp of a turnaround, according to new figures from the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

The state jobs agency reported that employers in Massachusetts collectively cut 400 jobs in August and 800 jobs in July. The July figure was revised downward from an earlier estimate of 2,800 lost jobs. Industries that added significant numbers of jobs in August were health care and temporary help agencies, while the construction and financial services sectors lost jobs.
