The meeting was on June 1, 2006 -- just two days after Mark
Haddock was shot and wounded.
My source was a loyalist paramilitary leader who clearly had
knowledge of the shooting.
He told me that Haddock was shot by the UVF, that he would know
who shot him, but for some reason the gunman believed he would not
talk.
The clear intention had been to kill Haddock, but the source
speculated that he might have been wearing a bulletproof vest. He
also revealed that the gun used had been stolen from the UDA.
At the time the UVF leadership believed it had identified four
agents -- Haddock, a second man known as 'The Mechanic', someone
