THE Scottish Futures Trust (SFT), the SNP government's flagship public building scheme, is at the centre of a conflict of interest row involving its millionaire chairman, Sir Angus Grossart. Grossart is facing calls to resign from the SFT after it emerged the merchant bank he co-founded, Noble Grossart, is the long-standing financial adviser to a firm bidding on a L300 million SFT project.

Labour last night said it was untenable for Grossart to head the SFT while at the same time the bank he has run for 40 years could have an interest in a contract. Even if Sir Angus was not personally involved in the bid, his dual roles created a damaging perception, said finance spokesman Andy Kerr.
