Kirwan honored
William E. "Brit" Kirwan, chancellor of the University System of
Maryland, was among four higher education leaders who were honored
Monday by the Carnegie Corp. with a 2009 Academic Leadership Award.
Each award winner received a grant of $500,000 to be used at his or
her discretion in support of the individual's academic initiatives.
In addition to Kirwan, other awardees were Leon Botstein, president
of Bard College; Scott Cowen, president of Tulane University; and
Amy Gutmann, president of the University of Pennsylvania.
