Hours after the Dubuque City Council approved the project, Mayor
Roy Buol stepped to the podium at the Grand River Center to laud a
partnership with IBM.
Calling it a "landmark" alliance, Buol said the city
sustainability initiative orchestrated by IBM and Dubuque will form
a model for other cities around the nation.
About 200 people gathered Thursday at the Grand River Center to
applaud the formation of a "Smarter Sustainable Dubuque."
Buol and IBM officials outlined a plan to pilot the tech
company's Smarter Planet program in Dubuque - the first U.S. city to
participate in the movement and the most comprehensive plan for
launching the program so far.
