"Cash for clunkers" helped the bottom line at Miller Compressing Co., but even the extra business that came with crushing 1,000 cars from Wisconsin auto dealers won't make this a good year for the Milwaukee scrap company.

Miller, with a history that dates back to 1887, ranks 26th on Deloitte's 2009 Wisconsin 75 list of the state's largest privately held companies. Deloitte will honor the Wisconsin 75 -- plus, because of a tie, one extra company this year -- at a breakfast event in October.

It's been a tough year for most of the companies on the list, said Lee Riordan, the Deloitte partner who oversees the event.
