WILMINGTON - It's a long shot, and if by chance it comes to pass, it may not be for the long term.

That's really not the point, though. The point is that on a team that may be better stocked with centers than any in the NHL, it's not obvious that Zach Hamill has to go back to where he came from.

Two training camps ago, months after the Bruins used their first- round choice (No. 8 overall) to draft Hamill, it was clear he needed to play a fourth season for his Western Junior Hockey League team in Everett, Wash. Last year, there was no doubt Hamill belonged with the American Hockey League's Providence Bruins, for whom he'd played a handful of games at the end of 2007-08.
