"One Step Beyond" and "Bonanza" have been on DVD for many years -
- always in cheap, public-domain sets that offer lousy picture and
sound. But now, for the first time, both shows have been released in
official first-season sets with high-quality prints.
They lead off this look at vintage TV that is new to DVD this
week.
"One Step Beyond: Official First Season" (CBS/Paramount, 1959,
three discs, b/w, $49.99). "The Twilight Zone" began in the fall of
1959 -- but the previous January saw the debut of this show, a
similar fantasy-anthology originally titled "Alcoa Presents" (after
the sponsor, Alcoa aluminum) and hosted by John Newland.
