Article: Lawrence C. Brown

Lawrence C. Brown, 59, an executive for nonprofit organizations who worked on education, job training and leadership skills for youths at risk of dropping out of school, died of a heart attack Aug. 18 en route to George Washington University Hospital after he collapsed at Nationals Park.

Mr. Brown, a resident of Burke, had been president since 1978 of Work, Achievement, Values and Education (WAVE), previously known as 70,001 Ltd. In addition, he managed $78 million in U.S. Department of Labor grants in Detroit and Milwaukee intended to help youth.

He was a native of Wakefield, Mass., and a graduate of Boston University and Suffolk University Law School in Boston.
