Lawrence C. Brown, 59, an executive for nonprofit organizations
who worked on education, job training and leadership skills for
youths at risk of dropping out of school, died of a heart attack
Aug. 18 en route to George Washington University Hospital after he
collapsed at Nationals Park.
Mr. Brown, a resident of Burke, had been president since 1978 of
Work, Achievement, Values and Education (WAVE), previously known as
70,001 Ltd. In addition, he managed $78 million in U.S. Department
of Labor grants in Detroit and Milwaukee intended to help youth.
He was a native of Wakefield, Mass., and a graduate of Boston
University and Suffolk University Law School in Boston.
