LEAVING A LEGACY: After she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer
in 2005, Kathleen Granara Skerry of Medford became more than a
patient; she became one of the top 100 fund-raisers for cancer
research at Massachusetts General Hospital.
The Granara-Skerry Trust, which she founded, has generated more
than $250,000 for the hospital.
Its major event is Walking for a Cure, a 5K walk in Medford. The
third annual walk is Saturday and is being held in memory of Skerry,
who died in April at age 56.
The mission of the trust is to raise awareness about pancreatic
cancer; raise and distribute funds for research; and provide support
and comfort to patients and their families.
