FAA awards $3.6 million for new Mingo airport
VARNEY - The Mingo County Airport Authority has received more
than $3 million in federal funding to construct the second phase of
a new airport.
Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., said Wednesday the funding from the
Federal Aviation Administration will be used to build an aircraft
parking apron, a connector taxiway, a parallel taxiway and runway,
and taxiway lighting systems.
The airport is being built at Varney on land donated by Alpha
Natural Resources.
