Article: Pre-engineering effort expanding here

Weeks in a high school can seem like years, considering all the material students have to cover before they graduate.

So the two weeks devoted to projects such as golf-ball catapults and Popsicle-stick bridges in the freshman-level pre-engineering class at Milwaukee's Riverside University High School have to show a payoff.

School leaders think they've already found one. Last year, researchers examining the impact of the project-based curriculum known as Project Lead the Way found that Riverside seniors in the program attended school an average of eight more days during the school year than their peers.

Those findings and other benefits are enough for Milwaukee Public Schools ...
