Before the season started, some National Football League observers saw great potential in the Green Bay Packers, a few even making them conference champions.

But NFL players don't share those gaudy expectations.

Sports Illustrated polled 291 current NFL players after the first game but before the second game of the regular season was played and asked them to pick the Super Bowl champion.

The biggest percentage of players (29%) picked the New England Patriots to win the championship.

Runners-up were the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers with 21% of the vote, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles (9%), Baltimore Ravens (5%) and New York Giants (5%).
