AMERICA, ARE we not yet ready for a black president?

I was very offended by the words coming from ex-President Jimmy Carter (reported Sept. 17), that the opposition President Barack Obama is receiving is because he is a black man.

Carter doesn't speak for me, and I don't believe he speaks for America. Regrettably, I believe his words come from his heart.

There has been no president in my lifetime who has taken such a beating as President George W. Bush. But not once did I ever hear the words that it was because he is "white." How absurd for these words to be uttered against Obama.
