Article: Man is rescued from the Lagan

A MAN was today recovering in hospital after being rescued from the River Lagan in Belfast.

Emergency services were called to the Albertbridge area of the city centre after a member of the public raised the alarm at 8.20am.

At one stage there were around 20 firefighters and a specialist rescue team from Central Fire Station in Belfast. The man was discovered 25ft down on a ledge on the edge of the river.

Gary Allen, Assistant Group Commander from Knock Fire Station, said the priority was to reach the man as quickly as possible.

"We had a call at approximately 8.22am of a male at the Albert Bridge with a leg injury," he said.
