State casinos in a funk
The boost Amendment 50 offered Cripple Creek's casinos appeared
to be short-lived, as August gaming revenue for the town's 16
casinos dropped 7.5 percent from July to $13.9 million. That total
was off 1.9 percent from August 2008.
Revenues elsewhere in the state also plunged from July, when the
higher limits and new games introduced by Amendment 50 took effect,
and August. Black Hawk saw an 8.9 percent drop, although year-over-
year revenue was 3.9 percent higher. Central City took a 8 percent
fall from July to August, and revenue was down 1.9 percent from
August 2008.
