Wild horses and Latino consciousness have helped to make Caliterra winery the sustainable superstar of Chile. Fifty hungry horses roam the beautiful Caliterra Estate in the Colchagua Valley, where winemaker Sergio Cuadra has set a protocol for eco-friendly production.

The animals graze on the upper slopes in summer, and the vineyards in winter -- their insatiable appetite keeps the grass very short, controls forest fires and has put machinery out to pasture.

In true green style, compost is produced on the farm and Caliterra's wine labels are made out of recycled paper.
