I'm sure that the Winnie-the-Pooh books must have been read to me as a child, or I must have read them because I read everything I could get my hands on and the two volumes in their tatty green paper jackets were certainly to hand. But it is the verses in AA Milne's When We Were Very Young, in which Pooh first appeared, and Now We Are Six which impacted more potently on me.
