Article: Judson and Brown's town incorporates

According to Edith Parker Hinckley in "On the Banks of the Zanja," the wheel came before the hub in the creation of Redlands.

Before Edward G. Judson and Frank E. Brown planned and executed the design for the city of Redlands, there were three other small communities surrounding the future city.

First came the Mission District, formed around the Asistencia, then Crafton to the east, and Lugonia to the north.

Another group with land that became part of Redlands was owned by the Chicago California Colonization Co. It included a part of what became State Street.

Both Crafton and Lugonia had small business districts and several firms, including a couple of hotels, before Redlands began.
