SNOWBASIN -- Melanie McQuaid was on her way to winning the XTERRA
USA Championship when she hit a wall.
"I had some dark moments today on the run," said the native of
Canada, who managed to hang on to win her sixth consecutive XTERRA
triathlon race Saturday with a time of 2:48:37. "This field is
awesome. I spent five weeks getting ready for this competition."
The course at Snowbasin, which for professionals was a 1.5-
kilometer swim, 30K bike race and 10K run, wasn't her favorite.
"There is no question, these kind of races don't play to my
strengths," she said, smiling. "I am more of a power rider. But a
win is a win. I certainly struggled today. I don't know what it was.
