Renovation of a 37,000-square-foot building housing the Falk
Laboratory School in Oakland should be finished by March. Completed
is a 31,000-square-foot addition that houses 14 classrooms, an art
studio, computer lab, cafeteria, science room, library and support
areas, said Dr. Marian Vollmer, a school spokesperson. Although a
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating is not being
sought, the school will have green components such as a roof that
will absorb 80 percent of rainwater, low-flow toilets and motion
sensors on faucets to decrease water usage. The private elementary
school at the University of Pittsburgh, with 310 students, expects
