In my family, camp is a place where we went as kids to swim, make
lanyards and play rousing games of capture the flag before going
home for dinner. Camp was always a noun, never a verb. It didn't
involve a tent, a sleeping bag or -- heaven forbid -- attempting
to cook in the wilderness. This could explain why my sister's
definition of "roughing it" is a Holiday Inn without a pool, and
mine is even more specific, involving thread counts and the number
of stars affiliated with the venue. And by that I don't mean
celestial bodies.
Still, I love nature, so when I learned that the Berkshires'
Bascom Lodge was reopening on Mount Greylock, the highest point in
Massachusetts, I thought I might ...
