Mayor Ray Nagin has touted it repeatedly as part of his long- term vision for New Orleans, and community members have given the concept standing ovations during public presentations.

Yet when it comes to one aspect of a proposed riverfront park spanning his neighborhood down to Bywater, Faubourg Marigny Improvement Association President Chris Costello stands in opposition.

He fears turning the Mandeville Street Wharf structure into a multipurpose venue that would host concerts and other ticketed events will restrict the public's use of the park and create parking and traffic problems for Marigny residents.
