Article: State takes 3rd place with strictest laws

Connecticut has strong gun laws that help combat the illegal gun market, prevent the sale of most guns without background checks and reduce risks to children, according to the 2009 scorecard compiled by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

With an overall score of 54 points out of the possible 100, Connecticut is tied in third place with Massachusetts this year among states with the strongest gun laws.

By academic standards, such a score could be likened to ranking third in the class with an "F."

But under the Brady assessment, the state surpasses most of its peers.
