The Navy has announced that it has chosen a company to remove the
siding of Hangar One in Mountain View, even though there is not a
plan to replace it.
The Navy has awarded a $22.3 million contract to AMEC Earth &
Environmental Inc., a London-based environmental and engineering
consulting firm, to remove the historic Moffett Field structure's
PCB-laden siding, clear out the hangar's interior and apply a
weather-resistant coating to the remaining steel frame.
It is the latest move in a tug-of-war between the Navy and NASA
over the fate of the contaminated Superfund site. The Navy is
responsible for cleaning up the toxins but has refused to commit to
replacing the hangar's siding once it is ...
