Some golf courses balk at hosting outside tournaments, lest they interfere with member play or cause them to lose valuable weekend tee times. Hingham's South Shore Country Club, however, didn't balk at hosting the final round of the 50th annual Southeastern Amateur Championship.

"We were thrilled to be even considered," said Jay McGrail, who's the town-owned course's superintendent and director of operations.

So thrilled was South Shore that it openly rooted for Cohasset Golf Club, the tournament's traditional final-round site, to approve its renovation project, which forced it to forego hosting for at least a year.
