Article: TakeOver 09 York Theatre Royal and Studio

IF nothing else, York Theatre Royal's Ta keover 09 provided me with my Shakespearean debut. In Hamlet, no less.

I wasn't playing the troubled Prince of Denmark, more of a supporting role. Namely, the man standing up in the stalls looking silly with a paper hat on his head and clutching a driver's L- plate.

Audience participation is a vital ingredient of Factory Theatre's Hamlet, one of the shows in Ta keOver 09 - the three-week festival in which the theatre is run, from the board of management to the cafe, by young people under 26.

Hamlet is Shakespeare - but not as we know it. The cast is chosen by audience members playing scissors, paper, stone.
