To paraphrase an old saying: One woman's trash is another woman's treasure. Nowhere is that more apparent than at a yard sale. Recently my mother, her friends and I held a yard sale at my mom's house on the Cape.

Almost as much fun as watching people happily hand over their money ($3 for a bath rug, $5 for a crystal picture frame, $2 for a sledgehammer) was making small talk with the customers. We talked, sold, arranged and rearranged items all morning. A steady stream of customers was constant until about 1:30 p.m., when it slowed to a trickle and we seized a moment to sit in the garage.
