Article: Criticism over Big Boy statue misguided

Let's give Big Boy Restaurants International the "Shortsightedness of the Year" award.

The Warren, Mich.-based company says the Big Boy statue atop the monument on Kanawha Boulevard near Patrick Street is a trademark infringement.

The statue was erected by the family of Shoney's founder Alex Schoenbaum on the spot of his first restaurant.

But Shoney's broke away from the Big Boy chain in 1976.
