A PROPOSAL for a compulsory commodity levy will be put to Nelson
paeony growers at a meeting next week.
Nelson grower and New Zealand Paeony Society executive member
Dennis Cassidy said he would strongly urge growers to become co-
operative, and that competition between growers was not the way
forward for the industry.
The proposal will be put to growers from Nelson, Marlborough and
Wellington at a field day in Blenheim on Saturday, and in Nelson on
Wednesday next week.
Mr Cassidy said the benefits of having a united industry and levy
included co-ordinated marketing, freight, research and development.
