Olympic gymnast Chellsie Memmel has withdrawn from the final selection process for the 2009 World Championships after going through three national team workouts Wednesday and Thursday.

"I just didn't have quite enough time to get ready," Memmel said in a phone interview Friday. "I want to be able to contend for medals. I know what it takes, what type of shape I need to be in."

The 21-year-old Memmel, of West Allis, won a team silver medal in the 2008 Olympic Games. She competed on the uneven bars despite breaking her right ankle in a training session before the competition began in Beijing.
