Few creatures on Earth have a worse public relations problem than
sharks, but a group of South Bay ocean lovers is working to improve
the misunderstood critters' reputations and encourage their
conservation.
About 20 folks will head to Baja California next week for a five-
day shark tagging expedition, with hopes of generating data that can
be used to promote overall marine conservation and shark
preservation, and help the creatures shake the specter of "Jaws."
Among those joining the nonprofit organization Iemanya Oceania on
the Oct. 15-19 expedition is Jenna Meistrell, granddaughter of the
