No matter where you fall on the economic spectrum, a sudden job
loss is hard to deal with. My husband, Matt, was unexpectedly laid
off in March. At the time, he was the sole breadwinner for our busy
family of five. Over the years, Matt and I had been diligent savers
and penny pinchers, putting money away for our kids' college
educations and our retirement plan. However, with no more money
coming in, we had to make some serious financial decisions - and
fast.
The first night after Matt lost his job, we sat down at our
