Over 300 poachers surrender guns in Zambia

LUSAKA, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- As many as 331 poachers have surrendered their guns and snares used to kill animals in Zambia's national parks in an exchange program where they are empowered with income generating activities, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Friday.

According to the newspaper, the poachers have surrendered a total of 1, 788 firearms and 48, 463 snares for poaching in game reserve areas to the government under a project implemented by a local organization, the Community Markets for Conservation (COMACO) .
