The first-round coaches' meeting in Parkersburg for the high
school football playoffs is only 33 days away.
Nearly half of the state's 122 football-playing schools (49.2
percent) have played six games of their regular-season schedules,
which is enough to say that one drawing a playoff picture can at
least begin to sharpen his pencil.
There still is plenty of football to be played before berths and
pairings are settled, as any coach will tell you.
"We're not there yet, by a long shot," John Messinger, coach of
the defending Class AAA champion South Charleston Black Eagles, said
