A GLASGOW ironworks which employed more than 2000 workers and
exported products ranging from bandstands to railings around the
world is being celebrated.
The designs used by Walter MacFarlane and Co. and its Saracen
Foundry have been catalogued in a new book which will help preserve
the company's reputation as one of the world's leading cast iron
architects.
Chances are you have admired the craftmanship of Walter
MacFarlane without realising it. The company was responsible for the
canopy above the entrance to Central Station as well as Kibble
Palace in Glasgow's Botanic Gardens.
