Teaching children to be better readers can be as simple as giving
them an attentive audience. Karen Tay reports on a novel use for

* To qualify to be a reading dog, pets must be at least a year
old, follow basic commands, like children and not be easily spooked
by loud noises.
* There are two other organisations in New Zealand that run
animal-assisted therapy - Canine Friends and Pets for Love, both in
the North Island.
* The SPCA/St John Outreach Pet Therapy in Auckland was the
supreme winner at the 2008 Infratil-Waitakere City Council Community
Awards in October 2008.
