Article: Oklahoma treasurer aims for college savings plan growth

Although the number of Oklahoma College Savings Plan accounts has tripled in the last year, officials are hoping to see even stronger growth this year.

"I won't be completely happy until we have 100,000 accounts," said Oklahoma State Treasurer Robert Butkin, chair of the Oklahoma College Savings Plan Board of Trustees. "There's no reason in the world why every Oklahoma child should not have an Oklahoma College Savings Account."

Currently, there are 7,700 accounts with $22 million invested through the program, which was launched just 2.5 years ago. However, the state graduates roughly 40,000 high school students each year, and 56 percent of those students go to college in-state immediately. ...
