Article: Missouri Supreme Court clears the way for class action against Kansas City Police Department

The Missouri Supreme Court cleared the way Tuesday for a class action lawsuit against the Kansas City Police Department brought by two men arrested separately for drug trafficking.

The men, George Ricketts and Raymond Pearsall, allege the police department in 1996 and 1999 improperly handed over to federal authorities cash and personal property that they seized during the investigations.

The property ranges from cash and jewelry to a BMW and other cars - and they want it back.

So do about 600 other claimants who also accuse the police department of violating the Missouri Criminal Activity Forfeiture Act when they forfeited the property to federal government.
