Ada-based Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc. has received a subpoena from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the company revealed Tuesday.

"The investigation is a fact-finding inquiry and does not mean that the SEC has reached any conclusions," the company said in a statement.

Erik Hotmire, SEC spokesman in Washington, D.C., declined to say whether the term "fact-finding inquiry" came from the federal agency.

"We neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of investigations," Hotmire said.

The subpoena requires Pre-Paid Legal to produce documents related to its treasury stock repurchase program, its Affirmative Defense Response System program and other marketing practices, ...
