Local Boy Scout officials are considering the sale of three
landmark properties, including the 2,000-acre Buckskin Scout
Reservation in Pocahontas County.
The plan, to be considered at a November meeting, is already
drawing objections.
Art King, president of the Buckskin Council's Executive Board,
said the council's three camp properties - the Pocahontas property,
also known as Dilley's Mill; Camp Chief Logan in Logan County; and
Camp Roland near Bastian, Va. - cost about $85,000 a year to
operate.
"Well, I guess it's like any business," King said. "If you don't
have enough money coming in, it's tough to operate."
The council's $1 million endowment was hit hard when the stock
market tanked ...
