Article: HELPING KENTUCKY'S WORKERS ECONOMIC GROUPS ARE WORKING TO MAKE SURE EXTRA ASSISTANCE THERE AFTER WHIRLPOOL CLOSES

HENDERSON, Ky. - The Henderson-area economic development organization is working with its counterpart in Evansville to ensure that Kentuckians laid off because of the closing of Whirlpool Corp.'s refrigerator plant next year are eligible for extra government assistance.

That would include the hundreds of Kentucky residents who work at the Evansville plant as well as those who work at part supplier factories such as Fortis Plastics here, Northwest Kentucky Forward President and CEO Kevin Sheilley told his board on Tuesday.

Whirlpool estimates that 30 percent of its 900 hourly production employees who will lose their jobs reside in Kentucky.
