Article: FOR JOE GENGELBACH, IT'S 40 YEARS AND COUNTING

POSEYVILLE, Ind. - Every night after practice, North Posey High School football coach Joe Gengelbach visited ailing Poseyville Fire Chief Bernard "Bud" Fehribach Jr. at the hospital or hospice.

Fehribach recently died of cancer, at age 44.

"He played for (Gengelbach more than) 25 years ago," said former North Posey all-stater Joe Neidig. "It wasn't something typical."

Gengelbach's atypical devotion to his former players is legendary.

"When they come back through town, they might stop at practice and say, 'Hey,' " he said. "To keep track of what they're doing, how their lives are unfolding, is very rewarding."
