Milwaukee finished 26th on Sporting News' 2009 best sports cities rankings, up 12 places from last year.

Cities were given points for achievements in a variety areas, "including a city's number of teams, their regular-season won-lost records, playoff berths, bowl appearances and tournament bids, championships, applicable power ratings, fan fervor, attendance and more," according to Sporting News.

Pittsburgh was ranked the best sports city in the U.S. and Canada for 2009, followed by Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Rounding out the top ten were New York, Phoenix, Miami, Dallas and Detroit.
