In with the pew
AN Edinburgh College of Art product design student is working
with a city community project to make furniture from recycled church
pews.
Mark Kobine is collaborating with the social enterprise
initiative GROW - Greyfriars Recycling of Wood - to provide training
and support for homeless people in Edinburgh and those dealing with
addictions and mental health issues.
The first product in the new design range is a three-shelf
bookcase made from Douglas Fir wood.
Mark says: "After years of bearing the lives of the church
parishioners, I liked the idea of the church pews being used to bear
the weight of stories in a different way."
